For Immediate Release:

Journal Joins MDC Steering Committee

David Cybulski, spokesperson for the Maritime Discovery Centre of the Thousand Islands, announced today the appointment of Larry Journal to the Steering Committee of the MDC. “Larry has been a strong proponent of the MDC. The committee is looking forward to working with him in making this a first-class facility” said Cybulski.

Journal is well-known as a Councillor in the City of Brockville for the past 15 years, in addition to his work with a large number of local volunteer groups. He is currently co-chair of the Brockville Community Clean-up and was the driving force to re-establish the Poker Run in Brockville.

“I truly would like to see the MDC become a reality” says Journal. “I believe in educational value and it will be an amazing learning tool, especially for school children in our region. The MDC will become a tourist destination from which Brockville and the area will reap the benefits of significantly increased tourism and the economic spinoffs that flow from many more tourists visiting our area.”

Mr. Journal becomes the 10th appointment to the MDC Steering Committee with 2 remaining positions to be filled in the coming months.

The proposed 26,000 square foot facility is intended to provide an important economic stimulus to the downtown core of the City. It will enhance the waterfront region and create new employment opportunities. The project is expected to attract visitors and students from across Eastern Ontario on a year-round basis, providing a range of economic benefits for the entire community.
