Quick Fact: The St. Lawrence River provides navigation to deep-draft ocean vessels through the St. Lawrence Seaway that was begun in 1954 and completed in 1959. The river drops almost 59 m (226 ft) between the outflow of Lake Ontario and Montreal, Canada, which is higher than the height of Niagara Falls!
